I love triathlon and would encourage anyone, whatever age or ability to have a go. I didn’t start triathlon until I was about to retire from work, and decided I didn’t want to take up knitting and sit in front of the TV. My first triathlon was at the Nottingham Water Sports Centre and from then on, I was hooked. I’ve done over 50 triathlons from Sprint distance, where I’ve represented Great Britain in my Age Group and been European Champion twice, to one 70.3 distance, and a few in between.

I took up coaching a couple of years ago so that if I had to stop doing triathlons, then at least I could keep in touch coaching triathletes. I get a terrific buzz coaching swimmers and runners, to see someone develop their swim stroke and their running style is so rewarding.

Our son is entirely to blame for my getting involved in Triathlon, he paid for my first ever Tri (super sprint) at the end of it I was “hooked” and exhausted.

I started coaching for the club originally to add to the coaching numbers and also because I enjoy coaching having been a trainer/Assessor for the RLSS before moving to the Midlands. It is so satisfying to be part of the Cov Tri coaching team and see the improvements our members make in our training sessions reflect in their various races.

I am an average middle aged Triathlete who started Triathlon and joined the club when contact sport began to hurt too much! Since joining I have competed at every discipline from sprint triathlons up to Ironman (number 4 next year) and have even qualified for the GB duathlon team.

I became a coach last year as I wanted to pay back the advice and encouragement that has been shown to me during my time with Coventry Triathletes.

I’ve been a member of the club for about 6 years and have coached for 3 years. I introduced and currently lead the Cov Tri Achieve programme, where I aim to make targeted, structured training accessible to club members.

My favourite discipline is cycling, from all out 10 mile TTs to more leisurely 100+ mile rides with the obligatory cafe stop or two.

I enjoy helping athletes along their journey to reach their goals, whether that’s through in-person coaching, training plans or just giving them a push to aim beyond what they thought was possible.

In my own training and racing I’m always inspired by the people around me in the club, seeing what other people can achieve encourages me to push further. I feel alongside the coaching and group training, this is a great reason for someone to join a club rather than going it alone.

I’m Natalie and I’ve been a member of Coventry Triathletes for 6 years and coaching for 3 years. My favourite thing about the club are the people I’ve met and the lifelong friends I’ve made. I’m always so inspired by the achievements of our club members.

Cycling is my favourite activity, so you’ll usually find me organising a weekend ride or cycling adventure. I recently completed an off road route around Norfolk called the Rebellion Way. Thankfully no rain as we were camping!

I’m passionate about encouraging new members to find their cycling legs, so get in touch if you’re not sure where to start!

I’ve been coaching triathlon for about 20 years and I still get a buzz from seeing novices progress from taking their first steps in the sport to fully fledged racing.

You’ll see me at running on Tuesdays and coaching on poolside on Sundays. At other times I can often be found riding my bike round Warwickshire, often via a country pub.
